The HELM Project

A Sustainable Way to Self-Sufficiency

The Warnborough Foundation, guided by various local agencies and organisations, has launched a programme called HELM (Honing Expertise through Learning and Mentoring), designed to help motivate participants to become economically active and resilient.

HELM is needs-specific, and allows each participant to discover and exploit their own capabilities and interests for maximum potential. It works by supporting participants through the entire change process while building up their confidence and skills.

HELM in a Nutshell

COMPASS Pathway
*NEETs are people who are not in education, employment or training.

HELM comprises two parts:

COMPASS works to identify the potential, skillsets and gaps of each participant, while allowing for self-discovery, mindset changes, and confidence-building. Experienced, dedicated mentors and tutors will lead this component, opening three options for progress – continuing into further education, engaging in a supported employment experience (with an optional qualification route), or develop entrepreneurship in our Innovation Hub.

Warnborough Foundation - HELM - Honing Expertise through Learning and Mentoring

HELM is the working name for an innovative incubation hub, where aspiring entrepreneurs – who have already demonstrated an aptitude and attitude for entrepreneurship – will be supported as they develop their business ideas from inception to fruition. Industry mentors will work with them in areas such as business planning, financial management, marketing and strategy.

HELM and the Community

Participants will benefit from guest speakers and presenters who will share their own experiences and ideas on how they created success for themselves. Mentoring is provided throughout.

Engagement with local businesses is built into HELM, through voluntary, internship and paid opportunities.

HELM intends that participants gain first-hand experience and insight in the complexities of real-world careers, thus creating a vital and sustainable dynamic within the local economy.

Participants are expected to ‘give back’ to the community by acting as future mentors and coaches for future participants.
